Our History
The Friends of Evergreen Library was founded in the
late 1980's and, after a few years became "inactive".
Then, in the early 90's the Friends re-established
themselves and in 1997 incorporated officially as the
Friends of Evergreen Library, Inc. - a non-profit
California corporation (recognized as a 501c3 tax
exempt organization).
Since incorporation the organization has been honored
by several awards from city council, the San Jose
Library Commission and the SJ Library Foundation. It has also been recognized multiple times by District 8 and the City of San Jose for excellence in community service.
There are currently 40 members including five committed volunteers who help with recycled book sales, restocking our book sales area and a variety of other tasks.
The Board of Directors and the Friends
members currently meet at 5:00 p.m. on the fourth
Wednesday of the first month of each quarter (January, April, July, and October) in Study Room B at the Evergreen Branch Library.

Our Mission
- We assist our local neighborhood library through providing volunteer time and expertise relating to library programs, etc.
- We assist with used book sales as an ongoing fundraising source.
- We provide funding for special programs, materials and supplies which can not typically be obtained from the city's library budget.
- We serve as a communication link between the library and the community in general.
